The charm of Suwannee Roots Revival goes beyond its rhythm-filled air; it’s a mixed bag of memories and moments, some subtle, some… rather sizable. Jake, Trevor, and Brooks took a deep dive into this enticing escapade last week, and boy, was it a grand adventure of measurable proportions.

As we basked under the gentle canopy of sound, Peter Rowan, with David Grier strumming alongside, seemed to regale tales both deep and wide. But nothing prepared us for the colossal delight that was ‘Big Richard’. The all-women band, living up to their cheeky name in every note, certainly stood tall amidst a forest of performances. And if that wasn’t stirring enough, ‘Hot Tuna’ swooped in with its monumental electric set, only to be surpassed by the towering presence of ‘Trampled by Turtles’, who, let’s just say, left no sonic stone (or shell) unturned.

Amid the grandeur of the stage, a more intimate, albeit just as engrossing jam session played out at Peeptown Camp. The lineup? Brooks, firmly rooted with his bass, Jake’s dad pulling out some hard-hitting tunes on the mandolin, Jake’s banjo revealing its full length of melodies, and Trevor, making sure every inch of his guitar’s potential was explored. Their melodies certainly measured up, casting a long shadow over a delighted circle of family and friends.

As for our dear Rocco, his absence was felt, much like missing a key, um, member of a memorable ensemble.

Suwannee, in all its glory, was more than just another festival. It was a tapestry of tunes, tales, and a touch of titillation. As we reflect, we chuckle at the memories and look forward to another sizeable dose of fun next year – with Rocco adding to the… dimensions of our experience.
